4/14--4/15/07

Unfortunately, I had a losing weekend, but thankfully it wasn't that bad.

All of my losses came from Stars, where I busted my account. I played like 17 tournaments (mostly the $25 6max SNGs, but some MTTs as well) and lost like $250ish (don't know exact amount b/c PT didn't track some properly, but I'm pretty sure that figure is accurate).

I'm pretty sure I let my poor MTT play affect my SNG play, as I was becoming frustrated with every additional MTT I entered and did not cash. On the flip side, I'm actually glad in a sense that I busted my Stars account, as it will give me more time to focus on cash games, which I really should ONLY be playing. I'll probably take some time off of Stars for a while, maybe just play MTTs there once in a while if I get bored playing cash games.

Despite my donkish donkament play, I was a winner once again at the FullTilt 100nl 6max game. I logged 275 hands over the weekend, and I won $210. After analyzing my stats for the previous week, I tried to open up my opening range from late position a bit, mostly the button, and tried to steal blinds more. My position stats for this weekend reflected this change, but I'm not sure yet if the change is +EV or not (small sample), but I suspect it will be.

Looking over my biggest winning hands from the weekend, my biggest net amount won for a hand was $52. That's pretty surprising, I thought I'd at least get a full stack from someone at some point. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, could actually be a good one if I'm controlling pot sizes and not going to showdown a lot.

Here's the aforementioned biggest pot of the weekend, where I make an expert river call with a really weak holding vs. a donkey:

Full Tilt Poker - No Limit Hold'em Cash Game - $0.50/$1 Blinds - 6 Players - (http://www.legopoker.com/hh/)

SB: $131.85
toohigh305 (BB): $107
UTG: $290.85
MP: $51.25
CO: $96.40
BTN: $100

Preflop: toohigh305 is dealt 9d 3c (6 Players)
UTG folds, MP calls $1, 2 folds, SB calls $0.50, toohigh305 checks

Flop: ($3) 5h 9h 2s (3 Players)
SB checks, toohigh305 bets $2.50, MP calls $2.50, SB calls $2.50

Turn: ($10.50) 5h 9h 2s Jd (3 Players)
SB checks, toohigh305 bets $7.50, MP calls $7.50, SB folds

River: ($25.50) 5h 9h 2s Jd Td (2 Players)
toohigh305 checks, MP bets all-in for $40.25, toohigh305 calls $40.25

Pot Size: $106 ($3 Rake)

MP had Qh 6h (Queen Jack high)
toohigh305 had 9d 3c (a pair of Nines)

I do make some really dumb plays every now and then, however. Here is one WTF, FPS hand vs. a TAG. My 4-bet PF is profitable vs. villains with TAG stats and high Att. to Steal % (Villain was 19/15/1.5 Att. to Steal - 25%) and at the time I could have sworn his stats were looser. Maybe they were, but if it was significant, than the sample size # of hands on him was too small to be making plays like the following one:

Full Tilt Poker - No Limit Hold'em Cash Game - $0.50/$1 Blinds - 6 Players - (http://www.legopoker.com/hh/)

SB: $131.40
BB: $38.95
UTG: $101.50
MP: $108.30
toohigh305 (CO): $98.50
BTN: $174.35

Preflop: toohigh305 is dealt Kh Ts (6 Players)
2 folds, toohigh305 raises to $3.50, BTN raises to $12, 2 folds, toohigh305 raises to $36, BTN calls $24

Flop: ($73.50) 4d 8d 2c (2 Players)
toohigh305 bets $40, BTN raises to $80, toohigh305 folds
Uncalled bet of $40 returned to BTN

So fucking gross, I wanna puke. Usually if I'm raising OOP PF I overbet the pot. Here, I choose a really poor bet size, not quite pot, so villain has odds, but still a big enough bet to inflate the pot and put me in a shitty spot OOP. PF I should either overbet the pot slightly, shove, or 4-bet smaller, like to $28-30, which will allow me to make a smaller stab at the pot on the flop.

On a funnier note, I was sweating the big cash games on FT late Sunday night/early Monday morning, and right before I went to bed, I saw some players with loose stats sitting at some 100nl 6max tables, so I got on a few waiting lists to play a quick session. One table had a seat open to the right of one donkey, stats were 55/25/1.6. Anyway the session lasted for like 4 minutes, as I was glad to book a quick win before I fell asleep, and I had a feeling I might get myself into trouble if I kept playing like so (HH's left raw for effect):

Anyways, I lost a total of $40 (estimated) on the weekend, but on the bright side I got my rakeback deposit from last month, for $214, which was nice, and softened the blow significantly.

On another note, I'm contemplating moving up to the 200nl level on FT. Since my March 22, 2007 deposit (which I talk about in my blog introduction), I am up almost $3200, or 32 buyins over about 18k hands. I had a nasty 11 BI downswing in the middle of this run, but I proudly grinded out of it, and have been running pretty good since. I have a little over $4k on FT, which is 20 BI's at the 200nl level. If I were to move up, I'd probably only do it with something like a 5 BI bankroll, which if I lost I'd move back down to 100nl. I may pussy out though, I'm not sure. I'll probably think about it some more, and maybe try to get some advice on 2+2. Also, if I do move up, I have to start datamining the 200nl 6max games for a while, probably a few days will be good enough.
